Delicate TOMATO LEAVES hold the morning dew as tiny nameless seedlings arrive and take root. Above these tender greens, a TANGERINE TREE unfolds sweet, bittersweet WHITE BLOSSOMS, turning the grove white each spring. As the blossoms fade, the bright zest of GREEN TANGERINES grows, wrapped in their lingering floral scent. By winter, the fragrance of YELLOW TANGERINES deepens. The tree stands firm with its fruit as sweet air drifts gently through its branches. When the harvest is over, that breath returns to the DRY SOIL AND PEBBLES, preparing the land for another season.
아침 이슬을 머금은 여린 토마토 잎처럼 이름모를 작은 풀잎들이 어디선가 날아와 싹을 틔웁니다. 그 초록 이파리들 위에 서 있는 귤나무는 봄이면 달콤하고 쌉싸름한 하얀 꽃을 피워 농장을 하얗게 물들입니다. 꽃이 피었던 자리에는 초록색 귤의 상큼함이 꽃향기를 감싸 안으며 자랍니다. 그리고 마침내 겨울이 되면 노랗게 익은 귤의 향기가 짙어집니다. 나무는 열매를 품고 단단히 서 있습니다. 풍요로운 가지 사이로 공기는 달콤하게 흐릅니다. 수확을 마치면, 그 공기는 마른 흙과 돌 사이로 돌아가 다시 새로운 계절을 준비합니다.
버려졌던 귤밭을 조심스레 가꾼 지 10년이 되었습니다. 그러자 보이지 않던 친구들이 모여들었습니다. 수풀 사이 땅에 꿩이 둥지를 틀어 알이 부화할 때까지 주변 풀을 깎지 않고 놔두었습니다. 봄에 핀 달콤한 꽃은 온 마을의 벌과 나비를 불렀고, 동네 고양이들은 윙윙대는 벌레 사이를 나른하게 어슬렁거렸습니다. 겨울에는 물질하던 동네 할머니들과 함께 귤을 땄습니다. 숲에서 날아온 작은 새들은 아침저녁으로 조잘거리며 가장 달콤한 귤부터 쪼아먹었습니다. 그렇게 같이 나눠 먹어도 충분했습니다.
